The purpose of this new event “Kaleidoscope of Flavors” is to help the community learn about our non-profit organizations. There are 23 non-profits participating at 14 different locations. Our goal is to have fun activities, food, displays and information at organization locations. Community members will visit the sites and see first hand what each participating organization is all about. This event is geared toward persons of all ages! Community Members will use a punch card as they visit each location to have a chance to win a Grand Prize Basket filled with goodies and gift certificates. Grand Rapids Amateur Astronomical Association
Location: Wittenbach/Wege Center – 11715 Vergennes St.
Join the Wittenbach/Wege Center and Lowell Community Wellness for a night of informal garden tours and conversation with a local chef. Visitors will walk away with an increased knowledge of how to grow their own food as well as how to cook using local, fresh produce. We will be serving gazpacho, a cold raw vegetable soup known for its refreshing qualities, made from organic-grown produce from our community garden. Light refreshments will also be served.
Grand Rapids Amateur Astronomical Association will be setting up a portable telescope at Wittenbach/Wege Center for visitors to view the wonders of the night sky. The JAMES C. VEEN OBSERVATORY is owned and operated by the Grand Rapids Amateur Astronomical Association. It was built entirely by the members over a five-year span in the late 1960's, and became fully operational in 1970. The twin-domed observatory has been kept technologically current, and is used for educational and research purposes.
